Edmonds is a suburb of Seattle, just a 20-minute drive north of downtown. This offers the "best of both worlds" with the benefits of suburban housing, space and school districts but also the availability of "downtown" ambiance for fine dining, theater, opera, shopping, etc. Seattle has professional football, basketball and baseball franchises, and their venues are within a 25-30 minute drive. The airport is a 35-40 minute drive.
The nearby Cascade Mountains offer snow skiing less than 2 hours away as well as hiking and backpacking in the summer months. The Northwest is known for its fishing, including salmon, steelhead, trout and some bass. There are many independent public and private golf courses available at reasonable prices to enjoy throughout the year. Boating is another major Northwest attraction. This includes cruising in the San Juan and channel islands in the summer, as well as many nearby lakes available for water sports.
